Diabetes Awareness Month

Updated: Jan 6, 2022

Thank you for visiting CCACCHealth.org. CCACC has put efforts in raising the public’s awareness of the importance of preventive care. In November 2021, we will promote preventing and managing diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that can occur if your body stops producing insulin or the body does not use insulin. Insulin is an essential hormone that helps your body to keep normal blood sugar levels. If you have type 1 diabetes, your body stops producing insulin, you need to take insulin daily. If you have type 2 diabetes, your body does not use insulin well. Preventing type 1 diabetes is unknown per CDC. However, type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed with healthy lifestyles, such as maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, and eating healthy food daily. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 3 Americans’ blood sugar levels are higher than normal which increases the risk for heart disease and stroke. It is estimated that 34.2 million people in the United States have diabetes. CDC indicates that Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death and the number 1 cause of chronic kidney disease and blindness. Uncontrolled diabetes can also cause lower limb amputations per CDC. If you have prediabetes, a sedentary lifestyle, family history of diabetes, you are at risk for developing diabetes. If you are overweight and 45 years and older, you are also at risk of developing diabetes.

At CCACC, we help patients identify risk factors and provide education and screening tools to prevent and manage diabetes. According to the CDC, 1 in 5 Americans does not know if they have diabetes, and 84% of people with prediabetes do not know if they have elevated blood sugar levels. We provide hemoglobin A1C which is a diagnostic blood work to screen diabetes. You can prevent and reverse prediabetes with a healthy lifestyle. Call us today to make an appointment.
