Overdose Response Program

CCACC is certified by the Maryland Department of Health, Center for Harm Reduction Services (2023–2025) to train people on how to respond to opioid overdoses. Our trained volunteers, including local high school and university students, lead this program.

We teach community members how to:
  • Recognize the signs of an opioid overdose

  • Respond quickly and safely

  • Use and give naloxone (a life-saving medication)

  • Perform rescue breathing

  • Call for emergency help (911)

  • Care for someone after naloxone is given

Signs of an Opioid Overdose
  • Unresponsive (won’t wake up)

  • Slow, shallow, or stopped breathing

  • Lips/fingernails turning blue, gray, or white (depends on skin tone)

  • Very pale or grayish skin

  • Limp body

  • Loud snoring or gurgling sounds

  • Slow or stopped heartbeat

Steps to Use Naloxone

Try to get their attention.

If no response, call 911.

Give naloxone.

4

Support their breathing.

5

Stay and give care until help arrives.
