Healthcare for All: Free Preventive Lab Program

Purpose:
Provide free preventive lab work for community members who have not received a basic health check in the past 12 months.

Community Care in Action:

Each year, CCACC Health Center offers two “Health Months,” one in May and one in September, to provide free preventive lab work for people who have not had a health check in the past year. In addition to services at the clinic, we also work with community partners, including the Sri Lanka Temple and Sikh Temple, to bring free lab services directly into the community.

In 2025, this program helped 98 community members access basic health checks, and at least one‑third of them later established regular health care through this service.

Stories of Impact:

One example came from our outreach to Summit Hall Elementary School, where the school nurse’s office was serving many uninsured children and families. We offered health checks for parents, and one woman in her late 50s was found to have high blood pressure. Through the program, she received lab work, was connected to primary care, and began establishing regular medical care and specialty follow‑up. Without this free screening opportunity, her condition may have gone unnoticed until it became more serious.

PAVHC Charity Services: Reduced Labs and Copays for Low-Income Uninsured Patients

Purpose:

Help uninsured and low‑income patients cover part of their medical care costs, including labs, copays, and basic clinical services, so they can stay connected to essential care without financial barriers.

Community Care in Action:

Many patients served by the Pan Asian Volunteer Health Clinic are low‑income, uninsured community members. They often work as house cleaners, gardeners, restaurant workers, caregivers, construction workers, and other labor‑intensive roles. Although they work hard to support their families, many still cannot afford regular checkups, lab work, or follow‑up visits.

About one‑third of our clinic patients are low‑income and uninsured. In FY2026, 283 Pan Asian Clinic patients received reduced lab fees and copay assistance through charity support.

For these patients, even a small copay or lab fee can become a reason to delay care. Charity assistance helps them complete recommended testing, return for follow‑up visits, and maintain regular medical care—rather than waiting until their condition becomes urgent.

Mental Health 360: Helping Patients Afford Therapy and Emotional Support

Purpose:

Reduce financial barriers for patients who need counseling, therapy, psychiatric evaluation, or other forms of behavioral health support, ensuring they can access care without interruption.

Mental health services are often difficult for low‑income patients to afford, especially when families may not fully understand or support therapy.

Stories of Impact:

Last year, we served a college student from an Asian family who was experiencing anxiety related to school pressure and family tension. Because her parents did not believe in therapy, she worked two jobs to pay for counseling on her own, and the financial strain made it hard for her to continue care consistently.

Through charity support, we were able to reduce the cost of her sessions so she could remain connected to therapy. This support gave her a safe space to talk through anxiety, family stress, and academic pressure, while helping her build coping skills and avoid facing these challenges alone.

This story reflects how the charity fund strengthens not only physical health, but also emotional well‑being and early intervention, ensuring patients receive the care they need before crises arise.

STOP B Program: Hepatitis B Screening, Vaccination, and Treatment Connection

Purpose:

Help Asian American and immigrant community members access Hepatitis B screening, vaccination, education, and connection to treatment.

Hepatitis B remains a major health concern for many Asian immigrant communities. About 1 in 10 Asian-born AAPI immigrants carries the Hepatitis B virus, often without knowing it. Without screening and follow-up care, Hepatitis B can lead to serious liver disease, including liver cancer.

Community Care in Action:

Through the STOP B Program, CCACC Health Center provides culturally appropriate outreach, screening, education, vaccination, and linkage to medical care. Charity support helps remove financial barriers for community members who may otherwise skip screening because of cost, language barriers, or lack of insurance.

For example, a community member may come to a health outreach event thinking they are healthy, but screening shows that they are at risk or need follow-up care. With STOP B support, the patient can receive education, vaccination if appropriate, and connection to ongoing care. This kind of early detection and prevention can protect both the patient and their family members.

PEARLS Program: Reducing Senior Isolation and Depression

Purpose:

Reach isolated seniors and provide counseling‑based support to reduce loneliness, depression, and social isolation.

Many older adults in our community face isolation due to language barriers, limited transportation, declining health, loss of family members, or difficulty adjusting to life in the United States. Some seniors live alone or spend most of the day without meaningful social interaction.

Community Care in Action:

The PEARLS Program helps isolated seniors receive structured counseling and emotional support. Through regular sessions, seniors are encouraged to identify problems, build small action steps, reconnect with others, and regain a sense of control in daily life.

For example, an isolated senior may report feeling lonely, tired, and disconnected from family or community. With support from a PEARLS counselor, the senior can work on practical goals such as attending group activities, calling a friend, joining a senior center program, or developing a simple daily routine. These small steps can reduce isolation and improve mood.

Donor support helps make this counseling available to seniors who may not otherwise be able to afford or access mental health services.
